I actually preferred Blade Runner 2049 to the original. I was never bored throughout – Gosling gives a good performance as the main lead: he is very convincing as a replicant blade runner and does the role justice as he follows in the footsteps of Ford.Įverything about the film fitted well together – the story, the supporting characters and the continuity. The narrative is interesting – it ebbs and flows – and it fits perfectly with every other aspect that has gone into the making of this spectacle of a film. I have nothing but praise for this aspect of the film – there aren’t words eloquent enough to describe how incredible a job Deakins has done. It is no surprise that Roger Deakins won an Oscar for his work in this film. The first thing I have to write about is the cinematography. Competing sides attempt to find the replicant child, which could spell chaos for the world. Officer K (Ryan Gosling), a blade runner for the Los Angeles Police Department, happens upon the remains of a female replicant who died during a caesarean section, demonstrating that replicants can reproduce – previously thought impossible. Plot Summary: A young blade runner’s discovery of a long-buried secret leads him to track down former blade runner Rick Deckard, who’s been missing for thirty years. But these flaws are few, and the overall trip is well worth taking.Starring: Ryan Gosling, Ana de Armas, Harrison Ford, Sylvia Hoeks, Robin Wright, Carla Juri, Jared Leto and Dave Bautista The movie's extreme length wears a bit, as does a slight detour into sillier, more ordinary sci-fi storytelling. Not to mention that it's great to see Ford again, and he finds new levels in his old character. Images of wood and water also contribute to more primal themes. The spaces and images frequently clash the cityscape and giant holograms or sculptures that are created by humans feel so inhuman at the same time. Artificial Intelligence and Her - not to mention the original Blade Runner - probed a little deeper, but this sequel has more than its share of amazing, provocative moments. Early life and education Juri was raised in Ambr, a village in the Italian-speaking Canton of Ticino in Switzerland. Her acting credits include 180, Wetlands, 2 Finsterworld and Blade Runner 2049. While Blade Runner 2049 doesn't quite reach that level, it still has many strong sequences that ponder themes of what it means to be alive - or even human.Ĭertainly movies like A.I. Carla Juri ( Italian pronunciation: karla juri born 2 January 1985) 1 is a Swiss actress. Villeneuve's best films - Enemy, Sicario, Arrival - are masterful at placing characters in unfamiliar or alien spaces and drawing memorable ideas and feelings from that clash. To stay in the loop on more movies like this, you can sign up for weeklyĬoming 35 years after the iconic original, Denis Villeneuve's sequel is a little heavier on spellbinding visuals than emotions or profound themes, but it still provides worthy food for thought. The movie isn't without its flaws, and it certainly could have gone a bit deeper, but there's enough thoughtful, visually spellbinding stuff here to make it well worth seeing. Expect a few uses of "f-k" characters also drink from time to time, but never to excess. Sex noises are heard in a red-light district, with vague sexual images glimpsed through frosted glass. It's implied that the main character has sex with a prostitute, with his hologram girlfriend superimposed over her. Women (some human, some holograms/sculptures) are shown naked - mainly breasts and bottoms - and a man's pubic hair is shown. Violence is frequent and strong, with brutal fighting, guns and shooting, stabbing, crashes and explosions, and bloody wounds/blood spurts. Parents need to know that Blade Runner 2049 is the highly anticipated sequel to the 1982 sci-fi classic Blade Runner, set 30 years after the events of the original and again starring Harrison Ford (as well as Ryan Gosling).
